PERSEPHONEPersephone took control of our lives four years ago this September. She was rescued from a kill shelter in Oregon by the Washington CRT contingent. She was blind and an insulin-dependent diabetic. When she approved us, she moved in to our pack which at time numbered six other Chihuahuas and two chi-wannabes. We quickly discovered she was truly loving little girl who was very, very ill. She had far-advanced Cushing's which was successfully treated with chemotherapy for the remainder of her life with us. She was our wag-wag-bump girl. Nothing slowed her down. She was the chief navigator for our trips, head squirrel chaser and first in line for dinner. She endured the ups and downs of Cushing's/Addison's and a hepatoma which caused her to lose 70% of her liver in March, 2006. Throughout it all, her tail never stopped wagging and she never met anyone she didn't love. She taught me about the pure joy of living which allowed me to accept bad things with equanimity. She died on August 7, 2006 while licking my tears away. ---Love from your Mom, Dad and other fur sisters and brothers |
